A smaller footprint is our best foot forward
The technology we help our partners create enables many possibilities that make the world smarter and safer, but for us, protecting our planet’s environment has to come first. Sustainability is a big part of the “what” we’re reaching for each and every day.
Because we operate in so many countries across oceans and continents, it is of utmost importance that we pay careful attention to managing our carbon footprint and our impact on every community where we do business. That means holding ourselves – and our partners – to the highest standards. We encourage manufacturers to make environmental information available on their websites and partner closely with suppliers to provide customers with all the proper information/declarations available from related manufacturers.
When we conducted a comprehensive environmental, social and governance (ESG) and sustainability materiality assessment in 2020, our external stakeholders ranked climate as one of the issues most important to them. In addition, waste emerged as a key topic in the electronics industry that’s important to our employees.
Using the results of our materiality assessment to inform our strategy, shape decision-making and refine our disclosures, we’re making progress to reduce Avnet’s environmental impacts. We monitor our energy and direct and indirect emissions at our major facilities with the long-term objective to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase energy efficiency throughout our operations. This will eventually include impacts upstream in our supply chain and downstream to our customers. We are currently focused on improving our emissions data and setting more ambitious goals. We aim to perform a complete carbon, water and waste footprint study, developing a strategy to increase renewables and reduce emissions, water and waste.
