Panasonic Electric Works EKMB & EKMC Series

PaPIRs - EKMC and EKMB series

Panasonic's new range of pyroelectric passive infrared sensors use lenses to direct the incoming heat radiation to the sensor elements. If an object with a temperature that differs from the surroundings moves into the detection area, the sensor reacts. Of course, parameters such as the ambient temperature and the size, speed, and direction of the object influence the response time and the detection distance of the sensor.

In principle, tangential movements, i.e. movement at a 90° angle to the sensor, respectively, are easier to detect than radial movements. This means that the detection distance is smaller if the object moves towards the sensor. This is where the horizontally wide detection type comes into play. Panasonic's new infrared sensor is equipped with an innovative, patented lens that increases the sensitivity of the sensor regarding radial movements. Not for the first time Panasonic has succeeded in setting a milestone in the development of motion sensors and their optics.

Panasonic introduces a new range of improved radial sensitivity pyroelectric PIR sensors with a specially developed lens.

Panasonic's new range of improved radial sensitivity pyroelectric PIR sensors feature a specially developed lens. The patented optics of the new horizontally wide detection type features a large detection area of 150° (horizontal) x 35° (vertical). Thanks to its many variants and different current consumptions of 1, 2 6, and 170µA, the sensor is optimally suited for both wired and battery-driven applications.

The new type complements the product families EKMCxxx and EKMBxxx with digital output (TTL/LVTTL) and with different standby currents of 1µA, 2µA, 6µA, and 170µA. This way, the sensors can be used both for cable-bound and battery-driven applications. The horizontally wide detection type has a horizontal field of view of 150° and a vertical field of view of 35° (+10°/-25°). As with the other detection types, the lenses are available in white, pearl white, and black.
