Ethernet MAC/PHYs

An Ethernet MAC is the physical interface transceiver and it implements the physical layer. An Ethernet PHY is the media access controller and it implements the data-link layer. Incorporating an Ethernet MAC and PHY on a single chip eliminates most external components and reduces the overall pin count and chip footprint.
