Real Time Clocks

A Real Time Clock is a clock IC present in a computer which keeps track of the current time. Real-time clock (RTC) ICs measure time, even when the power of the main device is off. During these times, RTC ICs draw power from an auxiliary battery or supercapacitor. RTCs are present in almost all electronic devices which need to keep accurate time. They typically operate at far slower speeds and consume much less power than a general purpose clock.
