Better audio quality, longer playtime, Bluetooth® LE Audio, and Auracast™ features
The nRF5340 Audio Development Kit (DK) is the recommended platform for Bluetooth LE Audio products and contains everything needed to start development. The nRF5340 Audio application is available as part of nRF Connect SDK and demonstrates audio playback over isochronous channels (ISO) using LC3 codec. The kit is configurable and can function as multiple devices like a USB dongle, a broadcast audio transmitter, a speaker, a business headset, or an earbud. For most use-cases, we recommend using two or more DKs.
The three main components of this DK are the nRF5340 SoC, CS47L63 Audio DSP, and nPM1100 PMIC. nRF5340 is an ultra-low-power dual-core Bluetooth 5.4 SoC with two ARM-Cortex M33 processors optimized for low power and efficiency. nRF5340 is equipped with a fair amount of memory and a rich set of peripherals. The SoC features I²S and PDM audio interfaces, which employ the low-jitter Audio PLL clock source. The CS47L63 is a low-power audio DSP with a microphone interface and mono differential headphone driver. The nPM1100 is a dedicated power management IC (PMIC) with a highly efficient dual-mode configurable buck regulator and integrated battery charger with a charge current of up to 400 mA. The extremely small form factor of nPM1100 makes it ideal for size-constrained applications like True Wireless Earbuds. The nRF5340 Audio DK is typically powered via USB and has a battery connector for a Li-Ion/Li-Po battery. The current consumption can be measured by using the dedicated current measurement pins. We recommend using Nordic’s Power Profiler Kit II for that.
