Low power SiP with integrated LTE-M/NB-IoT modem and GNSS
The nRF9160 is a compact, highly-integrated System-in-Package (SiP) that makes the latest low power LTE technology and advanced processing and security accessible, and easy to use, for a wide range of single device low power cellular IoT (cIoT) designs.
Incorporating an Arm Cortex-M33 application processor solely for applications, a full LTE modem, RF Front End (RFFE) and power management system. The nRF9160 is the most compact, complete and energy-efficient cellular IoT solution on the market.
The integrated modem supports both LTE-M and NB-IoT and can operate globally, removing any need for regional variants. All power saving features, including eDRX and PSM, are supported with IPv4/IPv6 support up to transport and security (TCP/TLS & UDP/DTLS) level. The modem firmware is upgradable via secure, encrypted Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) updates.
The Arm Cortex-M33 application processor is supported by 1 MB of flash and 256 KB RAM, making advanced application development possible in a single device solution. The application firmware is also upgradable over FOTA updates.
A GNSS receiver is integrated into the radio, offering various modes of operation to suit a wide selection of applications that employ location-tracking functionality.
Security is best-in-class with Arm TrustZone technology for isolation and protection of normal and secure zones for firmware. This includes elements of hardware like memory and peripherals.
Arm CryptoCell enhances security further by offering cryptographic and security resources to help to protect your IoT applications from various attack threats.

nRF9160 DK
The nRF9160 DK is an affordable, pre-certified single-board development kit for evaluation and development on the nRF9160 SiP for LTE-M, NB-IoT and GNSS.
It has a dedicated LTE-M and NB-IoT antenna that supports a wide range of bands, to operate globally. Included is a dedicated antenna for GNSS and a 2.4 GHz antenna to be used with Bluetooth LTE.
All GPIOs and interfaces (SPI/TWI/UART) are available via connectors. The kit is Arduino Uno Rev3 compatible, meaning it can be easily interfaced with external device shields.
User-programmable LEDs (4), buttons (2) and switches (2) are available to easily give input and get output. The nRF9160 DK has both a 4FF SIM card slot and an MFF2 SIM footprint, to support both plug-in and soldered (e)SIMs. It is bundled with an eSIM card from iBasis preloaded with 10 MB.
Programming and debugging is enabled through the Segger J-Link OB, which also supports external targets.
The nRF9160 DK is supported by a full suite of development software and tools. All free to download and use commercially.
