Known as 4D imaging millimeter wave radar, Avnet's S32R41+2*TEF82 dual-chip cascade program captures four critical dimensions: distance (Range), speed (Velocity), horizontal angle (Azimuth), and pitch angle (Elevation).
The 4D millimeter wave radar boasts strong penetration abilities, enabling visibility through fog, smoke, dust, and other obstacles that typically hinder visibility. Unlike cameras and LiDAR, the millimeter wave radar is unaffected by light conditions. It upholds superior safety standards, proving functionality under extreme conditions such as strong backlight and flying snow, demonstrating superiority to cameras and LiDAR systems.
With an antenna layout providing high-resolution horizontal and vertical reception, and operating frequencies from 76GHz to 81GHz, the system supports a wide bandwidth sweep. The integration of advanced features such as phase modulation and direct sampling SAR ADCs ensures high precision and performance.

The S32R41 integrates the SPT3.5 and 600MHz DSP, handling radar signal processing efficiently, using hardware accelerators for tasks like FFT, peak search, data copying, and more. This ensures fast, low-power processing of radar signals. Additionally, the system supports Python development environments, allowing RF and algorithm engineers to evaluate and develop custom algorithms quickly.
The 4D millimeter wave radar represents a significant leap forward in automotive sensing technology. Its ability to operate under diverse conditions, cost-effectiveness and advanced processing capabilities, make it an invaluable component of modern ADAS. As the industry continues to evolve, Avnet’s 4D imaging millimeter wave radar stands out as a crucial technology for enhancing vehicle safety and performance.
