The SiC is the main traction inverter for Battery Electric Vehicle, Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles, Full Hybrid Vehicles, and is based on the NCD57001 driver. It employs the onsemi NVG800A75L4DSB2 SiC module, which is a part of a family of power modules with dual side cooling and compact footprints for Hybrid (HEV) and Electric Vehicle (EV) traction inverter applications. The module consists of two narrow mesa Field Stop (FS4) IGBTs in a halfâbridge configuration.
Utilizing the new narrow mesa IGBT technology that provides high current density and robust short circuit protection with higher blocking voltage, this chipset ensures significant improvements, with higher power levels, lower power losses, and improved overall efficiency in EV traction applications. The availability of a dual-side liquid cooling heatsink reference design, loss models and CAD models provide support and confidence to customers in inverter designs.

Another benefit of the onsemi SiC solution is the accessibility of a full range of new drivers, which work with their SiC Mosfets and modules, making it very user-friendly. They are isolated and have an undervoltage lockout targeted for SiC applications, as well as the shut down timing optimized for SiC applications. The advantage of having the onsemi SiC drivers working together with the SiC products constitutes a seamless transition for customers to commence work in the shortest time possible.
