Component Documentation

Adding documents to the library

All documents used on Avnet.com for download needs to be in PDF format or in a zip format for application files.  All these documents are stored in the Global Asset Library in the "Documents". Each region/speedboat will have their own folder. Within each folder it is up to the region how they want to keep it organized. By having them all stored here they are accessible to all teams.

Document best practices

1. All documents need to be in PDF format before being added to the Global Asset Library. This is to stop download documents from being edited.  There are exceptions to this requirement.  Project files and reference designs which are meant to be updated by the customers should be left in the format required by the application and then ZIPped to compress the files that are downloaded.

2. The naming convention for documents should be all lower case letters with dashes between words. Example: te-humidity-sensors

Document and Application sizes

The maximum size supported for Document and file uploads are 512Mb.  Compress all files using 7-ZIP to reduce the size of the file.

7-zip is a utility that can be installed on Avnet hardware and is available from

software.avnet.com

Getting started

Select the Global Asset Library.

Click on components.

Select the Documents folder.

Once in the correct directory, click the drop down next to New. Select Component and then select File.

To add the document/file click the Upload button. A file upload box will appear. From there select the document or file from your desktop and click Open

Save and Close your changes.

Getting the link to an uploaded document or file.
If you want to link to a document and need to get the URL, open the document component in the library and right click on the file name and select copy link address.

Paste the URL where you want to use it within a component. Whether it’s a hyperlink or a call to action button you want to make sure you do three things to the pasted url:
1.Remove the beginning part of the URL to make it a relative URL (in RED below)
2.Remove the word “my” (in BLUE below) from the URL as well. If you don’t remove it –it will bring the user to a log-in page instead of to the document
3.In the case of PDF documents you want to display instead of download, change the word “true”(GREEN below) in the string to “false”. This will open the document in a new tab instead of automatically downloading it to the user’s system.

Using the above string and making those changes you will have the following URL:

/wps/wcm/connect/onesite/1880e73d-3cb5-44e2-8c5f-c242e78d703b/AvA-Hirose-Circular-Connectors-EN-Brochure.pdf?MOD=AJPERES&attachment=false&id=1528337835120
