Advancing home security with AI smart locks

Stock

Step into the future of home security with smart door locks, where cutting-edge technology meets convenience. In the rapidly evolving landscape of home automation, smart door locks have emerged as a fast-growing business and is redefining the way we safeguard our homes.

One standout innovation in door locks is the integration of camera-based AI systems for face-recognition. There are no physical keys to lose, no codes to remember, and the homeowner can easily manage access for family members or authorized individuals. Imagine a door lock that not only recognizes your face but also analyzes your surroundings for added security, offering real-time monitoring and access control.

This technology not only enhances security but also provides homeowners with a heightened sense of control and peace of mind. In a world where home security is paramount, consumer smart door locks, driven by AI and machine learning, usher in a new era of protection, seamlessly blending innovation and practicality for the connected home.

SmartLock is now available from Makarena Labs

AMD Zynq-based door lock

Developed with Makarena Labs, the smart lock system is based on a machine learning engine which uses AI models to extract features from both 2D and 3D acquisition data. A 2D camera is used to detect and recognize faces. A 3D capture sensor is used to detect a live person is in front of the door, rather than a photo. Both 2D and 3D branches have their own dedicated AI model for feature extraction. The extracted information is then fused together to compute the authorization process.

Based on the cost-optimized Zynq 7000 SoCs from AMD, the smart lock design can be quickly integrated into a door lock manufacturer’s system and tailored to meet their connectivity and AI-model needs.

In this demonstration walkthrough from Makarena Labs, see how SmartLock can be easily evaluated using the AMD Kria KV260 Starter Kit.

The video shows the simplicity of set-up and how analysis of both 2D & 3D features means the lock can’t be fooled using a photo of the authorized user.

The demo can also be run on the Arty Z7 board from Digilent.

Full instructions and more information on the AI models used are available in the Makarena Labs SmartLock reference design documentation.
