The panel consists of four modules in parallel that use both cold white (6500K) and warm white (3000K) Osram Duris S2 Chip Scale Packages. The strings of LEDs are driven by two channels of the RGB Arduino shield developed by Infineon Technologies that uses the XMC1202 microcontroller with 16K of flash to provide PWM-controlled constant current output. The Arduino shield receives data from a Bluetooth board that links to a smartphone or tablet so that the panel can be controlled from an app.

Infineon has designed the Arduino shield to be easily configurable to combine different LED light engines and lamps so that it can be used for fast prototyping and evaluation of LED lighting applications. It uses a DC/DC buck converter to drive up to three LED channels with constant current of up to 700mA. The shield itself is powered by a XMC1202 with Brightness and Color Control Unit (BCCU) built into the silicon. This lighting-specific hardware block provides the flicker-free LED dimming and colour control that is at the heart of an Human Centric Lighting (HCL) design as well as smooth, eye-friendly dimming and colour mixing.
