ams OSRAM: Smart UV-C Treatment Solutions
Online, On Demand
Live presentation date: April 5, 2022
Overview
UV-C LEDs are still considered a new source of germicidal radiation, but the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the research, development and application of these devices significantly. Compared to conventional UV-C sources, there is still a gap in efficiency and price. On the other hand, the specific properties of the LED allow completely new and even more efficient system designs, which could not be realized with conventional UV-C sources before.
This presentation will discuss the unique benefits of UV-C LEDs in different system setups and explain the advantages of the LED features in the application. High power LED systems with high radiance enable efficient system designs in etendue limited systems. This applies especially to setups with very narrow radiation angles, which benefit from this LED property and allow a significantly smaller fixture size.
The combination of UV-C LEDs and UV sensors not only allows monitoring of the radiant flux from the LED or a verification of the applied dose, but also enables the detection of microorganisms. With this information, the treatment can be adjusted to the specific need in the application, which leads to significant energy saving potential.
Key takeaways
- Understand which UV-C treatment applications benefit most from UV-C LED characteristics
- Get an impression how fast the replacement of UV lamps could happen
- Learn about the benefits of a UV-C LED and UV sensor combination to make the system smarter
