Low-power display technologies

The following display technologies enable good readability in bright ambient light while consuming very little power. Each technology has its own unique features and benefits.

E-paper is a type of display that uses tiny microcapsules filled with electrically charged particles to create an image. When an electric field is applied to the microcapsules, the particles move to the top or bottom of the capsule, creating a black or white pixel.

Reflective LCDs are designed to reflect ambient light instead of emitting light from a backlight, which makes them more power-efficient than traditional LCDs.

MIP or Memory In Pixel, is a type of display technology that uses a pixel's own memory to retain an image without requiring constant power.

The power consumption of these technologies depends on various factors such as display size, resolution and refresh rate.

In general, e-paper displays have the lowest power consumption, followed by MIP displays and then RLCD.
