New Product Introduction

Microchip PolarFire SoC

PolarFire® - Lowest power, multi-core RISC-V® SoC FPGA ideally suited for industrial applications

Microchip PolarFire SoC - front and back side

The PolarFire® SOC is the first system on chip (SoC) field-programmable gate array (FPGA) with a deterministic, coherent RISC-V® CPU cluster and a deterministic L2 memory subsystem enabling Linux and real-time applications.

Built on the award-winning, mid-range, low power PolarFire FPGA Architecture, PolarFire SoC devices deliver up to 50% lower power than alternative FPGA solutions, span from 25k to 460k logic elements (LEs) and feature 12.7G transceivers in all densities.

Offering NO compromise between low power and superior performance, the PolarFire SoC benefits are demonstrated by EEMBC CoreMark®-Pro published benchmarks.

Addressing Key Market Opportunities, PolarFire SoC is ideally suited for secure, power-efficient compute in industrial applications. Whether you need a RISC-V system with a small FPGA fabric to directly communicate with sensors and do latency-critical pre-processing in a DIN-rail based form factor or you are controlling several motors with deterministic low latency in a power-constrained environment, PolarFire SoC is an ideal candidate. The native support for asymmetric multi-processing (AMP) allows a simple and reliable partitioning between real-time bare-metal applications and a Linux operating system for e.g. communication and interfacing tasks.

Update - March 2021: Automotive, defense, aerospace and industrial designers who need automotive- and defense-grade programmable logic solutions can now order PolarFire Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) in volume production quantities. Microchip Technology today announced it is shipping PolarFire FPGAs qualified for both the Automotive Electronics Council Q100 (AEC-Q100) specification Grade T2 (-40°C to 125°C TJ) and military temperature grade (-40°C to 125°C TJ).

PolarFire FPGAs offer on-chip security features that enable secure communication, an encrypted bitstream, and a cryptographically secured supply chain, ensuring tamper-proof solutions for these market segments.
