Key technologies

WiFi

WiFi is the main wireless radio in Local Area Networks. In all kind of markets and applications, this technology is in use for IP-protocol based data exchange, video and voice streaming. Avnet Silica’s portfolio supports WiFi Chips and modules.

2G/3G/4G/5G

Since 1991 GSM has been changing electronics and vertical markets fast. Followed by UMTS the demand for higher data transfer speed was leading to a new technology called 4G. Now it is at its limits and 5G is the path to future mobility solutions.

GNSS

GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite) is the term for all Satellite Localisation Systems including GPS (US), Galileo (EU), Glonass (RUS) and Beidou (CN), used for navigation, tracking and localisation of vehicles, goods and people.

Bluetooth

Bluetooth is the dominating technology for Personal Area Networks. Primarily used for exchanging sensor data and controlling actors, it also enables voice and music streaming. Key applications are in Industry, Consumer, Medical and Smart Home.

LPWAN

LPWANs are common for remote monitoring, control and sensing applications. Also used also in predictive maintenance replacing former 2G applications. Wireless technologies NB-IoT, LoRa-WAN, Sigfox and LTE Cat-M are used in LPWAN.

RFID/NFC

NFC, a sub-set of RFID, has increased due to the demand from payment solutions and access control. RFID Chips are most often used in logistic applications, and for identification.

UWB

UWB solutions enable better indoor localisation and tracking in fully automated logistic applications. A key enabler is that the technology is now implemented in Smartphones.

Gateways

Routers, gateways and modems are the door from Local Networks (LAN/PAN) to the infrastructure via Internet, Cloud, and Intranet. Our broad portfolio of networking components will complete your solution.

DECT

DECT is a technology for Personal Area Network with a focus on telephony. It is dominating the Cordless Phone market. It is also used in some medical, industrial applications and Smart Home applications.

ISM

ISM–band technologies, such as 802.15.4 based Threat and Zigbee, 6LoWPAN, Wirepas and proprietary technologies in Sub-GHz and GHz frequencies, are required where WiFi and Bluetooth are not the right fit, especially Mesh networks.
