Hermes Medical Customer Study

Main Title

The Challenge

Long Copy

Used to diagnose and treat complex diseases — everything from cancer and gastrointestinal diseases to coronary artery disease and Alzheimer’s — nuclear medicine is helping physicians make better decisions and improve outcomes for their patients. This medical specialty employs a variety of scanning methods using molecular radioactivity administered to the patient. Gamma, SPECT, and PET cameras detect the uptake of the radiotracer in the human body and give the physicians the opportunities to make a diagnosis as accurate as possible. However, each type of scanner comes with its own software to read and process the images, making it complex and time consuming for doctors as they must juggle different workstations, struggling to compare images from different cameras, all while maintaining consistency.

This is where Hermes Medical Solutions comes in. The company’s Hermia software offers a vendor-neutral molecular imaging solution that brings together all types of scans, regardless of camera brand or imaging procedure, into an all-in-one environment that saves time and brings consistency for the greater benefit of patients.

Adeline Riblet Olofsson, chief marketing officer at Hermes Medical Solutions says, “We are 100% focused on nuclear medicine. We can take in data from different cameras and provide doctors all the tools they need in nuclear medicine within one workstation. The quality and consistency of our solution enable nuclear medicine practitioners to improve quality in patient management and decision support. That’s how we’re making a difference for hospitals and their patients."

Streamlining Solution Delivery

As the Hermia software provides valuable information and is an important piece of the puzzle in achieving more personalized diagnosis and therapy, Hermes Medical Solutions must deliver its solutions on a highly reliable computing platform — one that consistently delivers as expected to assure doctors they are always getting the same high performance. But the company needs more than just hardware. Hermes Medical Solutions also needs a flexible solution to support its global expansion, allowing the company to concentrate its resources on software development and meeting the unique clinical needs of each customer. “We are a software company; we shouldn’t need a factory or warehouse,” Thyr points out. “In the past we were buying hardware, setting up the systems ourselves, and shipping the final solution to the customer. This was not efficient. What we needed instead was a partner that could prepare the systems for us to load our software and let them handle all the rest.”

Partnership focused on value - today and tomorrow

Working in partnership with Avnet Integrated Solutions and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) OEM Solutions, Hermes Medical Solutions has an OEM supply chain solution for responding to customer orders quickly and efficiently on a global scale. Most important, the partnership enables the company to continue innovating its software and growing business with confidence. Thyr says, “The pure business benefit for Hermes Medical Solutions is we can use the clinical knowledge that is the strength of our company to expand without worrying about the underlying technical infrastructure. Our software developers are constantly coming up with the latest and greatest innovations to support advances in nuclear medicine, and it just works.” Looking toward the future, Hermes Medical Solutions is working with Avnet and HPE to plan for the next generation of hardware platforms on which to run its software. This is key to keeping up with the continuous advances in nuclear medicine, demanding more powerful processing and analysis of molecular image data. “Technology is changing rapidly and HPE has the resources to keep pace with those changes,” Thyr says. “We meet with Integrated Solutions and HPE regularly to discuss the technical road map and how we can take advantage of new computing capabilities.” Daniel Grip, senior solution architect with Avnet adds, “Since we began working with Hermes Medical Solutions, Avnet has never looked at them as only a customer and HPE OEM Solutions as only a supplier. We are all partners, working together for the same goal — to deliver the best possible solution for nuclear medicine.”
