Asset tracking

In global manufacturing and commerce, raw materials, components and final goods can travel long distances through warehouses and logistic hubs before arriving at their final destination. More often than not, the direct or indirect value of any particular item warrants certain costs associated with monitoring its condition and position.

Factory automation smart sensor nodes (wired / wireless)

Smart sensor nodes are key enablers of automation and smart industry applications on modern factory floors. In the context of condition-based monitoring and predictive maintenance, Smart Sensor Node is based on sensing elements, MCU or MCU SoC connectivity and transceiver and power management which requirements depend upon the application use case.

Factory automation PLC control unit and I/Os

The PLC Control Unit in a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is the main building block which processes data coming from input devices and controls outputs. It can be integrated with I/O modules to provide the required functionalities. The PLC control unit also enables connectivity to various fieldbuses including PROFIBUS, Modbus and CAN open, industrial Ethernet such as Profinet, EtherCAT, wireless technologies and to the backplane bus of the system.

Instrumentation & test

Medical equipment for therapy and diagnostics are very often complex computer-controlled, electro-mechanical systems that rely on advanced semiconductor technologies and components to help deliver healthcare in hospitals and doctor offices as well as in homes. In addition to being able to measure vital signs and other readings, today's medical and healthcare devices must be able to deliver the high power required to supply magnetic resonance imagery or generate the precise high-voltage high-frequency pulses found in ultrasound equipment.

Motion control drive discrete approach

In line with the environmental revolution, electric motor control is moving very quickly in the direction of higher efficiency for industrial motors and drives. Moreover, an increased level of integration at the lowest cost is required to support market penetration of new technologies, as well as increased safety and reliability. Committed to industrial motor control for more than 20 years, ST was among the first to recognize these trends.

Building control HMI

To help us effectively control equipment as well as make decisions based on machine feedback, we use a Human Machine Interface (HMI) which can be a simple display directly assembled on a machine for factory automation or multi-touch display panels for controlling an entire production line. We provide a range of DC-DC switching and linear voltage regulators, high-performance STM32 microcontrollers and wired – including transceivers for different fieldbuses and RS232, RS485 and CAN – and wireless – including Bluetooth, Sub1GHz, LoRa – solutions together with protection devices and EEPROM to help build robust HMI solutions.

Building alarms fire alarm, smoke detector, PIR

Inside any building and home, fire alarm and smoke detectors systems are vital safety feature. They becoming more sophisticated, incorporating more sensors to detect not only smoke and fire but also monitoring the quality of the air. These devices can alert individuals and authorities quicker, reducing the alert time and avoid property damage and casualties and they are dependent on very low power as high power means higher costs and more frequent maintenance both in a residential home and in a commercial building.

Small appliance food processor

Multifunction food processors, or robot kitchen aids, perform a set of functions including mincing, chopping, and grating vegetables, extracting juice and cutting or grinding fish and meats, and some can also mix and cook to complete a recipe to perfection. ST offers devices ideal for the design of these appliances, with a broad range of temperature, humidity and pressure sensors, along with advanced motor control solutions that include triacs, power MOSFETs and gate drivers, integrated STSPIN motor driver and STM32 microcontrollers, as well as specifically-designed IGBTs for induction heating.

Small appliance coffee machine

A coffee machine can be a surprisingly high-tech appliance, featuring an elegant touchscreen and a combination of high-pressure water pumps, grinders and solenoid actuated valves, which must all be highly efficient and run quietly during the preparation of beverages.

Operational amplifiers

In today’s digital world, many signals start as an analog one. Most sensors already have their own analog signal conditioning circuit, but an operational amplifier is still a key device when you need more complex amplification and filtering, or just for interfacing analog signals with an ADC or a microcontroller.

Current sense amplifiers

Current sensing solutions add valuable safety and protection features to system designs. They provide information to control current in power systems and avoid overheating and short circuits. Current sensing is also an essential part of energy metering to ensure power-efficiency and minimize environmental impact.

DC-DC converters

ST offers a wide portfolio of monolithic DC-DC switching converters (i.e. controller and MOSFET in the same package). This broad portfolio of ICs is composed of highly-specialized products to meet every market requirement.

LDO regulators

An LDO (low-dropout) is a linear voltage regulator designed to operate with a very low input-to-output voltage differential (dropout voltage). It aims to minimize the power dissipated as heat on the device and increase conversion efficiency.

eFuses & power breakers

Electronic fuses (eFuses) can replace larger conventional fuses or other protection devices such as resettable PTC fuses.

DC Power breakers provide continuous monitoring of the input power and interrupt the circuit in case of anomalous power consumption. The power limit is adjustable by the user.
